Sensitive and controlled-goods classification is a matter of what's actually described on the invoice or purchase order — HS codes, keywords, and industrial signals — not a broad industry guess.
The problem
Many goods carry compliance sensitivity that isn't obvious from a company's stated industry alone — a general machinery exporter can still ship a component with a dual-use classification on a given order. Classifying that correctly means reading the actual goods description and HS coding on the document in front of you, not applying a blanket assumption based on the counterparty's sector.
Veredis's approach
Veredis extracts goods descriptions, HS/commodity codes, and industrial-sector signals directly from the trade document, and evaluates them against sensitive-goods indicators and industrial classification data using deterministic rules — sensitive HS-code prefixes and industrial keyword/SIC-division signals feed the same evaluation rather than running as disconnected checks a reviewer has to reconcile manually.

- Source versions for the classification data the check was evaluated against
- An explicit decision state distinguishing a confirmed non-sensitive result from an unresolved or unavailable check
Where the limitations are
Goods classification depends on the quality and specificity of the source document — a vague or incomplete goods description limits how confidently a classification can be made, and Veredis surfaces that as a needs-review state rather than forcing a confident-looking answer from incomplete input. Genuinely ambiguous or novel goods descriptions still warrant a qualified classification specialist's review.
